Welcome to Square & Round Dancing in South Paris & Norway, Maine

Square dancing is a fun and healthy activity you can do all year long. It takes no experience to visit a workshop and see what the fun is all about. Visiting experienced dancers are welcome to join in at any workshop.

Wednesday Evenings, 6:30-7:45 PM, Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club invites singles, couples, and/or family to try Square Dancing.

A new class for beginners will start the second Wednesday of September each year. The enrollment will be open for three weeks. The first lesson will be free. See below for the charge after the first lesson.

We are part of the Adult Education, Oxford Hills, Nezinscott Program.

We meet in the Cafeteria of the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine Street, South Paris.

Beginners should plan on coming every Wednesday Evening (skipping holidays, school vacation, and snow days) in order to learn all the Mainstream Calls.

To join in the fun you get 15 Weeks (September - December) for only $60 per person or $5 a Week for the First Semester.
The second semester is from January - May with another 15 weeks of lessons to cover the remaining mainstream calls. In May we have a graduation.

Club Members will be there to assist in the Square with the beginners.
Club Caller, Ray Hilton of Saco, will be teaching!

Square Dancing is for all ages. It is a great way to relax and have fun as well as to meet people and make new friends. We want to introduce this activity to everyone in the area that might be looking for recreation during the long cold winter months. We know that you will have an enjoyable and fun filled evening. We hope that you will join us. For more information call our presidents, Dick & Joan Deans at 966-2327.

Ray Hilton of Saco, Club Caller for the Swingin’ Bears, will hold the classes on Wednesday evenings each week except during school vacations and if there is a snow day for the school. They are part of the Adult Education program at the Oxford Hills Middle School. The lessons will be from 6:30 – 7:45 PM. Workshops for experienced dancers of various levels who will be assisting in the squares will be from 7:45 – 9:00 PM.

  • Square Dances - Square Dances are $8.00 per dancer, the second Saturday of each month (subject to change on availability of the school). No dances in January, June or August. (See our dance schedule for details.) Dances include Round Dancing as well as Square Dancing, featuring club and guest callers and cuers. Non-dancers are welcome to watch free of charge.
